‘Private Practice’ Officially Cancelled

Yes, you read that right! ABC has decided to cancel the long-running medical series ‘Private Practice’ at the end of its current, sixth season; but this shouldn’t really come as a surprise to viewers especially in light of the fact Kate Walsh decided back in June that this season would be her last.

According to The Futon Critic, series creator Shonda Rhimes had this to share at her website about the show coming to an end: “I’m sad to say that ‘Private Practice’s’ run will end after episode 613 this season. There was a lot of discussion and debate but, in the end, the guys at the network and the studio and I all decided that ‘Private Practice’ was reaching its finish line. Creatively, we are all extremely proud of the show and especially proud of this season — which you will all soon discover is a creative renaissance. I can’t wait for you to see it”.

The series, a spin-off from Rhimes’ other successful ABC medical drama ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, takes place at Seaside Wellness (formerly known as Oceanside Health & Wellness Group), chronicling the life of Dr. Addison Montgomery (Walsh), who is a neonatal surgeon. It also revolves around her co-workers as they deal with their patients, the practice and their private lives. The cast (for the current season) includes Paul Adelstein, KaDee Strickland, Taye Diggs, Amy Brenneman, Brian Benben, Caterina Scorsone and Benjamin Bratt.

This final season of ‘Private Practice’ was to include 13 episodes; three of which have already aired. The next new episode is set to air on ABC tomorrow night, October 23 at 10/9c.
