FOX to Develop U.S. Version of Brit Comedy ‘Gavin & Stacey’

Gavin & Stacey

How many times has this happened before? An American network decides to develop a popular U.K. series with varying rates of success.

Well, here is another case…where FOX has closed a deal to develop the romantic comedy series Gavin & Stacey.

The series focused on the long-distance relationship between a man from England and a woman from Wales who start off talking on the phone. Eventually they decide to meet, hitting it off, but have to deal with their eccentric families and friends. The U.K. version ran for three seasons, airing here in the States on BBC America.

According to Deadline, the FOX version will center on the “key life moments of the title characters who try to maintain their relationship while combining their polarizing families’ lives”.

It should be noted that this isn’t the first time a United States network has made an adaptation of this comedy, as ABC attempted it in the 2009-2010 development season.
