The Walking Dead Season 3: This Is What It Was Meant to Be [Advance Review]

The Walking Dead Season 3 Premiere Seed 2012 (29)

The highly anticipated third season of The Walking Dead begins tonight with the premiere episode “Seed.”

There’s no two ways about it: this third season premiere episode is the BEST episode of The Walking Dead since the beginning of the show. And if you’ve been one of those who felt the show had some uneven episodes and would sometime roll your eyes at the incomprehensible decisions made by the characters (I know I’m one of them), get ready to be blown away by the perfection that is this premiere.

The episode takes place a few months after the events of last season and when “Seed” opens, we see the group clearing a house in the most precise and effective way we’ve ever seen them do it. But the most striking part of this opening is that not one single word is uttered until after the credits. Yes, The Walking Dead is back and better than ever.

We soon realize that these few months have changed all our characters… for the better. There has been a tremendous evolution of the series and its characters which will become clear to you within 15 minutes.

Of course this season leads the group to the prison which fans of the comic series are familiar with. When we get there, expect the best zombie fighting you’ve seen on The Walking Dead so far. There is such a hideous beauty to those scenes, it will take your breath away.

I also mentioned an evolution of characters, that goes from Carl to Lori, who I actually like a lot more this season. In fact, if you’ve been a “Lori hater” because of how inconsistent she’s been, you might be surprised by her this season.

I should also mention a sharp ramp up in the grittiness, darkness and more importantly ruthlessness this season. This world has taken a toll on our characters and that is visible through some of their unwavering actions. There is no more hesitation or discussion, it’s kill or get killed.

As for what happens in that prison, I don’t want to give anything away because it’s just too good and I want you to experience it for yourself, but let’s just say there were a lot of “holy shit” coming out of my mouth as I was watching.

I have seen the first two episodes of this new season and if The Walking Dead continues in that direction, it will without a doubt be the best season of the series. I cannot give it enough praise, this is what the show was meant to be all along.

It has all led to this, and The Walking Dead has arrived!

Don’t miss the third season premiere of The Walking Dead tonight, Sunday October 14th at 9pm on AMC.
