Supernatural Season 8 Review “What’s Up, Tiger Mommy?” – Too Much Heart

Supernatural Season 8 Episode 2 What’s Up, Tiger Mommy

In this episode of Supernatural, called “What’s Up, Tiger Mommy?”, Sam and Dean get closer to closing the gates of Hell and we all learn a little bit more about what happened in Purgatory.

I know this isn’t the first time that this show has jumped us forward in time and then slowly given us bits and pieces of information about what happened during that time. So why is it that this seems so much worse than those other times? I don’t know but this whole mystery about the boys during this missing year is killing me.

Luckily tonight we got a few more hints as to what happened to Dean, and finally Cas, in Purgatory. The moment he flitted off in last year’s finale, I knew that Cas had taken off to protect Dean but I wasn’t sure exactly how. Now we know a tiny bit more about what happened but much like last week’s premiere, the more we learn, the more questions I have. I know that eventually all will make sense, but man the suspense is killing me. Plus, those lines about Cas having too much heart really got to me. I feel like, in a way, you could describe Dean that way as well. When Dean repeated what Kevin has said about people dying when he didn’t need them anymore – that killed me. If Dean were truly that cold, then none of it would bother him. But though he’s had to do horrible things, all of them have torn him apart.

I know I’ve talked a lot about Dean but that’s because we really didn’t delve any more into Sam’s story in this episode. It looks like more will be revealed in his story next week, which will be nice. I definitely want to see more of what made him give up hunting.

As for the closing of the gates of Hell, is it wrong that I almost don’t care about that storyline half as much as I care about learning what happened with Sam and Dean during the last year? Now that Kevin has taken off though, I do wonder if they will go back to hunting for a while or if we will now see them only hunting for Kevin and his mom for a few episodes.

It’s interesting to realize that I have no idea what this show is going to do next, which is an unusual feeling. Usually at a point like this, I’d feel confident predicting what direction they might go next, but with the way things have been going with the Winchesters, anything is possible at this point. In a way, it makes this season more exciting.

My favorite bits..

“I’m sorry sir, is that a bone?” (*must stop from making “that’s what she said” jokes*)

Dean splashing Kevin’s mom with Holy water without even a “Hello.”

“Is that what you’ve been doing all year? Watching television?”

“What? Like it’s my first tattoo?”- Nice!

Dean telling Sam to shut-up, even though Sam hadn’t said a word.

Watching as Dean used basically the same interrogation technique to find the tablet as he did looking for Cas in Purgatory. Wow.

“If you want to do this the rough way, I am happy to oblige.” – So many naughty thoughts, so little time.

“Is that even a planet anymore?” – Oh Dean. It’s a good thing you’re very pretty and good with weapons. Dean reassuring Baby that no one was going to sell her.

“To make an omelet, sometimes you have to break some spines.”

Kevin’s mom punching Crowley.

“Listen to Moose, Squirrel.”

Samandriel telling Dean that some in Heaven still believe that Cas’ heart was always in the right place. Aww.

“I think too much heart was always Castiel’s problem.” – *heart breaks a little inside*

Yay!! A Dean and Cas hug! Loved it.

“How did you find me?”
“The bloody way.”

Benny referring to Cas as “Hot Wings.”

I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! I KNEW that Cas had left Dean to protect him.

“Cas, buddy, I need you.” – *squeaks*

“We ganked those bitches once before, we can do it again.”

The gang realizing they were out of their league when they saw that people were bidding in dwarven gold.

“This isn’t the men’s room.”

The Hammer of Thor?? Dude!

5/8 of a what??

“Maybe you should try ‘Plan D’ for dumbass.”

Kevin’s mom offering up her soul for her son. Oh no!

Crowley’s look when Plutus informed him that he couldn’t bid his own soul because, well, he didn’t have one. Duh.

“Will I die?”
“No. You’ll just wish you were dead.” – Poor Sam, he would certainly know.

“They have a habit of using people up and watching them die bloody.” – Man, that was beyond cold.

“What’s one more nightmare, right?” – Oh Dean. I just want to hug him.

“He thinks people I don’t need anymore – they end up dead.”

That final scene with Cas = W. T. F??
