Fall 2012: New Girl “Re-Launch” Premiere Advance Review

New Girl Season 2 Premiere

NEW GIRL is back for its second season and hits your TV tonight at 8:00 pm ET on FOX. There is a second episode airing at 9:00 pm as well. I was able to get my hands on an advance copy of the first episode of Season 2 called “Re-Launch” and I have to say that New Girl is definitely not suffering from the sophmore slump. New Girl stars Zoey Deschanel as Jess, a quirky teacher who ends up being roommates with three guys after breaking up with her boyfriend. The trio of men and one slightly dorky, but still adorable, girl quickly become friends.

Season 2 of New Girl finds Jess dealing with yet another life change. Jess loses her job as a teacher leaving her to wonder what job she can get until she is able to teach again. Luckily, Schmidt is able to offer Jess her first alternative career path when he decides to throw himself a rebranding party to celebrate his newly restored manhood. I honestly do not know what was funnier, watching Jess try to be something so clearly out of her element, the fact that she had competition in the form of one glorious Parker Posey, or Schmidt’s idea of a rebranding party, or even his brand in general.

The crew is outrageous as ever. Schmidt bursts on the scene immediately in the most ridiulous outfit. Things just continue along that same pace for the remainder of the episode. It made me part cringe and part laugh all at the same time. Where else can you see fire throwing, a shower diaper, and a little tiny monkey hat and have it all make sense? Somewhat that is.

If the first episode of Season 2 is any indication, I would say that New Girl is going to be as strong and funny as the first season. I look forward to Jess’ new adventures, as well as to the growing closeness that she has with Nick. You should definitely check out New Girl tonight at 8 pm ET (and again at 9!) on FOX. If you do, come back here and let me know if you think Season 2 of New Girl is amping up to be just as good as the first season!
