Film actress Diane Kruger, best known for her role in the ‘National Treasure’ films alongside Nicolas Cage, has taken the female lead role in the FX drama pilot called The Bridge, which is being adapted from the Scandinavian hit series ‘i Bron’. ‘The Bridge’ will center on two detectives from the United States and Mexico who must work together to hunt down a serial killer operating on both sides of the American-Mexican border.

Kruger will play El Paso Police Homicide Detective Sonya North, a dogged cop who lacks tact, warmth and empathy. Shockingly candid, she calls the world like she sees it – which can be off-putting to her colleagues, but also refreshing and funny. When a body is dumped on the bridge that spans the El Paso-Ciudad Juarez border, North is forced to work with Marco Ruiz (the male lead role which has yet to be cast), a Mexican detective who has everything she doesn’t: a spouse, a family and the ability to relate to other humans.

Among Kruger’s other film credits are ‘Farewell, My Queen’, ‘Inglourious Basterds’, ‘Troy’ and ‘Wicker Park’. She will soon be seen on the big screen in the adaptation of the Stephenie Meyer novel ‘Host’ and the Abraham Lincoln-themed “Green Blades Rising’.

The pilot of ‘The Bridge’ was adapted for American television by Meredith Stiehm (‘Homeland’) and Elwood Reid (‘Hawaii Five-0’) and it will be executive produced by them as well as Carolyn Bernstein, Lars Blomgren and Jane Featherstone. The Bridge is a co-production of Shine America and FX Productions. Production begins this fall in El Paso and Los Angeles with acclaimed Mexican director Gerardo Naranjo (‘Miss Bala’) at the helm.

There is no word on when or if ‘The Bridge’ will make it onto the programming schedule at FX, though.
