The cable network ABC Family has greenlit three pilots – an hour-long drama Terminales and two comedies, Phys Ed and Continuing Fred, which will all go into production this fall along with the previously announced drama pilots ‘The Fosters ‘[working title] and ‘Socio’.

The drama ‘Terminales’ is based on the successful Mexican TV series that follows a young woman’s life after she is diagnosed with a terminal illness. The pilot was written by Susanna Fogel and Joni Lefkowitz and the series will be executive produced by the duo along with Aaron Kaplan (GCB).

The multi-camera sitcom ‘Phys Ed’ will focus on a high school’s star jock who returns to teach at his former alma mater only to find that, even though he has changed, nothing else really has. It comes from David H. Steinberg (‘American Pie 2’) who wrote and executive produced the pilot.

‘Continuing Fred’ is another multi-camera half-hour comedy about Winifred “Fred” Harris, a 20-something newly-graduated slacker with an overbearing family who surprisingly finds purpose when she begins to teach at a local elementary school. The pilot was written by Bill Daly (‘Mike and Molly’).

Per Kate Juergens, the Executive Vice President of Original Programming and Development at ABC Family, “these pilots will further our strength in both areas (dramas and comedies) and all to our existing slate…it’s a trend we are working to continue”.

Again, these series will go into production this fall and will, more likely than not, hit the small screen sometime next year [as long as the network decides to move forward them, of course – remember a pilot order does not necessarily guarantee a series order].
