ABC Orders ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Pilot from Joss Whedon

Earlier in the month, we reported that Joss Whedon was developing a live action series for Marvel Television and now the word is that ABC has ordered a pilot for S.H.I.E.L.D. with the legendary writer/director/executive producer at the helm alongside his brother Jed Whedon and sister-in-law Maurissa Tancharoen (who have collaborated with Joss on numerous projects such as ‘Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog’ among others).

According to Deadline, the project is based on the peacekeeping organization from the Marvel universe – S.H.I.E.L.D., short for the Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate or Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division. This organization has, of course, been featured in comic books and feature films, including the recent movie ‘The Avengers’ for which Whedon was writer and director.

Reports have it that production on the pilot will begin immediately with the brothers Whedon and Tancharoen as well as Jeffrey Bell and Jeph Loebas acting as executive proudcers. Whedon will also direct if his schedule permits.
