Covert Affairs “Hello Stranger” Review – Blind Leading The Blind

Covert Affairs Hello Stranger Season 3 Episode 6

In this episode of Covert Affairs, called “Hello Stranger,” Annie faces one of her toughest challenges yet and Auggie is on a different kind of mission.

As I watched this episode, one question kept going through my mind during most of it: What happened with Simon? They end last week’s episode with Annie calling Simon but then this week we don’t hear one peep from him or see her talking to him at all? Ugh! I hate that we have to wait another week to see what’s going to happen with that story.

This week Annie is still pretty much reeling from the knowledge that she was being evaluated by Eyal when they were in Jerusalem. So to try and prove that she’s still a valuable member of the DPD, she takes the bull by the horns and decides to turn an asset that no one thinks she can turn. I like that she isn’t taking any of this lying down, though I was a little disappointed in her for deciding to give up when she thought that Sayid hadn’t been turned. True, she’s had some rough times recently but I hope that now that she’s got Sayid, she realizes her worth and doesn’t go through with her resignation from the DPD. All this back and forth is kind of making me crazy.

While Annie was busy with her own troubles, Auggie too decides to (quite literally) take his therapy into his own hands. Leading his shrink out on to the streets so that she could get a better idea of what life is like for him was great. I think that he needed her to understand it before he could open up more about some of the things he felt when he was first injured. Auggie has come through so much and the fact that he’s mostly chipper these days makes it hard to realized just how awful things would have been for him when he first lost his sight. This episode just cemented my love and admiration for his character.

My favorite bits..

Annie boldly volunteering to try and turn Sayid.

“I may not have met him yet, but I already know how to speak to him.”

Auggie clarifying his original “I’m fine” to say that he was “going to be fine.”

“What’s going on between you two? The friction’s so palpable I’m almost glad I can’t see.”

Annie getting caught by the State Department. Oops.

“Auggie, you’re brilliant.” – I agree.

Auggie’s little giggle when his shrink asked what he had in mind for their session. That was a devious grin if I ever saw one.

“You’ve fallen in love with a ghost.” – Such a simple line and yet so very appropriate for Annie.

“I’m not winded, it’s just adrenaline.”
“Keep telling yourself that.”

Sayid pointing out that going to America and not ordering a burger was like going to Japan and not ordering sushi.

“How do you respect a man you disagree with?”
“Both my mentors are women.” – I loved that.

Annie telling Sayid that she believed in him more than he did.

“Fire hydrant came out of nowhere.”
“Yeah they do that.”

Auggie admitting that sometimes he might just walk into the ladies room on purpose.

Auggie admitting that he once walked into traffic so that “somebody else to finish the job the explosion didn’t.” – Wow.

The entire conversation between Annie and Sayid in the elevator.

Annie telling Joan that she had decided to move on. Wait. What??

Annie getting the news that Sayid had become her asset.
