Actor Ciarán Hinds to Play on ‘Game of Thrones’

TV viewers who have been watching the summer mini-series ‘Political Animals’ will recognize the name of Ciarán Hinds because of his role of former President of the United States Bud Hammond. Some viewers may recognize him from his days on the acclaimed TV series ‘Rome’ or his role in the box office film ‘Phantom of the Opera’; but come next spring, viewers of Game of Thrones will see him in the pivotal role of Mance Rayder.

As reports from TV Line have it [and per the “Song of Ice and Fire” novels, of course], Rayder “was a loyal member of the Night’s Watch until he broke his vows and went to live with the wildings”. Once with the wilding, he earned a position of influence, eventually becoming known as ‘The King Beyond the Wall’, who has been referenced from time to time in the HBO drama. As most viewers will recall, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) was being taken to the wildings’ leader at the end of season two.

Among Hinds’ other credits are the box office films ‘Munich’, ‘Circle of Friends’, ‘Road to Perdition’, ‘Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life’, ‘Veronica Guerin’, ‘Miami Vice’, ‘Race to Witch Mountain’, ‘There Will Be Blood’, ‘Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day’, ‘The Debt’ and ‘Tinker Tailor Solider Spy’ [among others]. He also appeared in the ‘Above Suspicion’ TV drama in the U.K.

Fans can expect the third season of ‘Game of Thrones’ to premiere on HBO on March 31, 2013.
