Childrens Hospital and NTSF:SD:SUV:: return to Adult Swim tonight, August 9th, in a back to back set of season premieres. I had the opportunity to screen a few of the new episodes coming up this season, and if you’re a fan of the offbeat sense of humor that Childrens Hospital and NTSF:SD:SUV:: are notorious for, I can report that tonight’s season premieres do not disappoint.

Returning for its fourth season, Childrens Hospital premieres with “The Boy With the Pancakes Tattoo,” an episode that chronicles the insanity that takes over Childrens Hospital after an airborne amnesia pandemic spreads among the patients and staff. “The Boy With the Pancakes Tattoo” delivers a solid 11 minutes of hysterical panic, deadpan dialogue, and that beautiful Childrens Hospital idiocy that always gets me laughing out loud.

Immediately following tonight’s Childrens Hospital premiere, NTSF:SD:SUV:: returns for its sophomore season with “16 Hop Street.” NTSF:SD:SUV:: starts off strong with an episode that crams in parodies of various teen movies and high school TV series as the team infiltrates a local school to hunt down a kidnapper.

Although I enjoyed the first season of NTSF:SD:SUV::, it wasn’t an instant addiction for me. This season premiere seemed to improve on some of the issues I had with the first season (in particular, Trent’s melodramatic mannerisms and catch phrases that occasionally irked me last season didn’t grate on me this time around) and it made me want to reassess my original impressions of NTSF:SD:SUV::.

Childrens Hospital and NTSF:SD:SUV are both set up to deliver even more of the absurd style of parody that makes them stand out among the normal lineup of comedy series on television today. Although both shows have had hit or miss episodes, tonight’s premieres are great examples of the kind of outside-of-the-box creativity and humor that keeps fans coming back for more.

The season premiere of Childrens Hospital airs tonight at midnight on Adult Swim, immediately followed by the season premiere of NTSF:SD:SUV:: – be sure to check them both out!
