Showtime Announces Fourth and Final Season of ‘The Big C’ July 31, 2012 News, The Big C All good things must come to an end; and unlike other shows that seem to sail off into the sunset without a “real” ending, the folks at Showtime are allowing their critically acclaimed dramedy The Big C to come to a planned ending. David Nevins, the president of Showtime, told the members of the press at the Television Critics Association summer tour that the series would be renewed for a fourth season, but with one hitch: it will be the series’ last. The fourth season will consist of four one-hour episodes, but there is no telling whether Cathy (award-winning actress Laura Linney) will survive her battle with cancer or not. Nevins shared that ‘I wouldn’t assume anything about how it’s going to end. They have a very interesting, novel and form-breaking way to handle where the show is going”. Nothing was released by Showtime as to when viewers can expect this final season to air, though.
