Royal Pains “Fools Russian” Review – Great Expectations

Royal Pains (USA) Fools Russian

In tonight’s episode of Royal Pains, called “Fools Russian,” Hank goes on his secret mission, leaving the rest of HankMed to cope without him – and the whole thing left me a little confused.

Now I’ll admit that I was a bit distracted while watching this episode, probably due to the fact that last night was also my national TV debut but I don’t think that was all of it. After all, I was very excited to see this episode.

Therein lies the problem perhaps. I know I probably had Hank’s secret mission built way up in my head so when it finally happened, I found it a bit of a letdown. I knew that it would be medical-related but Boris went to all that trouble to get Hank to treat his friend? Couldn’t he just have called Hank and told him to come to New York on a moment’s notice without the fancy watch? I’m really hoping that there’s more to it than what we saw in this one. Plus, I just can’t decide how I feel about this new woman. Granted her entrance was a lot more interesting than what’s-her-face and there’s no denying that was one hot kiss they shared, but am I strange for feeling that things are moving too fast for Hank? Did I read more into his relationship with Jill than was really there? Because I kind of figured he’d be taking a break from dating after losing her.

As for the story with Hank, Paige and Jeremiah – that one was a lot more satisfying. Seeing Evan’s reaction to finding out that this guy Brady (who was not only a millionaire but went to freaking SPACE) was Paige’s ex, I figured he’d throw a hissy fit and we’d see nothing but jealousy. Instead Evan and Brady enter into their own geeky bromance and I loved it. And to those of us who were talking about how Jeremiah is like Data in the comments after last week’s episode…how funny was it that there were tons of Star Trek references in this one?

So overall this was an okay episode for me. Hank’s story wasn’t what I was expecting but Evan, Paige and Jeremiah’s story kind of made up for it. Now I’m curious to see what happens with all of them next week.

My favorite bits..

I’m with Hank. There’s actually a language Boris DOESN’T speak? My world just imploded.

Evan literally dying (at least on screen) when he found out that his big client was an old flame of Paige’s.

Divya’s father waking up just in time to give her the cold shoulder. Ouch.

Uh oh. Paige’s ex went to space?? Hm.not sure how Evan can top that one. Not that he has to, but I’m sure he’s thinking about it.

Evan and Brady doing the Star Trek space battle re reenactment. Haha!

Thinking that Boris is a really good actor. Pretty nice faint he pulled off.

“I couldn’t resist any bad acting on your part.” – Ha!

Evan and Brady debating on which of the many Star Trek weddings count.

Evan’s childlike joy at getting the chance to jump into the zero gravity machine.

“You know, if his stomach is anything like mine we better take a few steps back.”

Wow, things went bad really fast.

Green blood?? Dun! Dun! Dun!

Hank calling to check in with Evan. Aw, it sounded like he missed his baby bro.

“I’m a doctor. No, I don’t have a life.”

Wow, Hank is a major flirt isn’t he? I don’t know if I’ve ever realized that before.

Evan guessing that the reason Brady’s blood was green is that he had Vulcan DNA.

Ok I know Jeremiah means well, but he definitely needs to work on his bedside manner.

Divya spotting the tipped-over chair on the balcony above the pool.

Hank’s hesitation before saying that Dmitri “exercised vigorously.”

Paige smacking Evan when he accused her of being a “little hefty” in space camp. Aw, I love that they were both hefty kids. So cute.

Evan trying to give himself the nickname “Tiberius.” – Ha!

Divya’s dad pointing out that maybe the failure of his desperate act had a silver lining. Aw.

Not being all that certain how I felt about Hank kissing Christina. Don’t get me wrong, it was hot but I guess I’m still feeling like he should be missing Jill a bit more. I know I am.

“I want to get to know you better.”
“Talk about firsts.” – Now THERE’S the Hank we know and love.

“So get your CFO ass over there and close this deal.” – Whoa! Go Paige!

What did you think of this episode of Royal Pains? Got any favorite bits or least favorite bits of your own? I’d love to hear from you!
