‘Awkward’ Season 3 Announced

Awkward (MTV) "Are You There God? It's Me, Jenna" Season 2 Episode 4
Fans of Awkward, do an awkward dance! MTV just announced that they are renewing their teen comedy for a third season, slated to air next summer. Not only that, but they’re showing their love for it by doubling the number of episodes for season three!

It’s little wonder. A hit when it first aired in 2011, Awkward has seen a six percent spike in viewership during this, its second year, and currently draws in 1.8 million people a week, making it the number one show in its time slot with viewers 12–34. Star Ashley Rickards (Jenna) was recently nominated for a Critics Choice Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. She also received a Teen Choice nomination. Her co-star, Beau Mirchoff, recently won a Teen Choice Award for his breakout role as Matty.

“Critics and our audience alike have fallen in love with Awkward, and we’re thrilled to bring this terrific series back for a third, supersized season,” said head of MTV programming, David Janollari. He calls the show, “the perfect series for MTV.”

It’s been a very long time since it’s been acceptable to get excited about something on MTV, but if you’ve never watched Awkward, do yourself a favor and check it out. This week’s episode sees Jenna’s perfect Valentine’s Day with Jake turn into a nightmare when Matty crashes her date with his new crush.

Awkward airs on Thursday nights at 10:30 p.m. on MTV.
