‘Falling Skies’ Renewed for Third Season

Fans of the TNT alien invasion drama Falling Skies can rejoice, as the show has been renewed for a 10-episode third season.

The series chronicles the devastating aftermath of an alien attack that has left most of the world completely incapacitated. In the months since the initial invasion, the few remaining survivors have banded together outside major cities to begin the difficult task of fighting back. Each day is a test of survival as citizen soldiers work to protect the people in their care while also engaging in an insurgency campaign against the occupying alien force, whose nature and purpose remains a mystery.

The cast includes Noah Wyle (‘ER’), Moon Bloodgood (‘Terminator: Salvation’), Will Patton (‘Remember the Titans’), Drew Roy (‘Secretariat’), Colin Cunningham (‘Elektra’) and Sarah Carter (‘The Vow’) [among others] as survivors of the invasion and occupation by the aliens.

The critically acclaimed drama from Dreamworks Television is executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Justin Falvey and Darryl Franks finished its first season as basic cable’s top new series of 2011. ‘Falling Skies’ currently averages 5.9 million viewers, ranking as basic cable’s number 1 summer drama with adults from 18 to 49 years of age. The series was created by Robert Rodat (‘The Patriot’)

The next new episode of the second season of ‘Falling Skies’ will air this Sunday, July 22 on TNT at 9/8c with the third season slated to air sometime in 2013.
