Awkward “Are You There God? It’s Me, Jenna” Review

Awkward (MTV) "Are You There God? It's Me, Jenna" Season 2 Episode 4
Depressed about her parents separating, Jenna tried to turn to God in this week’s episode of Awkward, appropriately titled, “Are You There God? It’s Me, Jenna.” She agreed to go on a Christian teen retreat with Lissa, but didn’t anticipate Sadie tagging along. Really, though, shouldn’t she have? Sadie is desperate to keep her minion, but the more we see of the real Lissa, the more I like her.

Of course, Sadie’s one goal in life (now that she’s lost some weight) is to make Jenna miserable, so she spent the weekend trying to get the better of her, and finally succeeded during a “share circle,” where she brought up Jenna’s supposed-suicide yet again. Thanks, Sadie. You can always be counted upon.

I live for the moments when Jenna stands up to and gets the better of Sadie, but I like this new approach she’s unconciously taking, by becoming friends with Lissa. It’s driving Sadie crazy, yet Jenna doesn’t even have to lift a finger. It’s pretty much perfect.

Meanwhile, Lacey can’t deal with her husband leaving them, even temporarily. She’s not very good at being alone. Still, she found an unexpected soulmate in Valerie when they ran into each other at a restaurant and bonded over eating alone. Watch out, Jenna. This alliance was clearly forged in the fires of, well, you know.

As for Matty, he decided to tell Jake all about how the mystery girl from the summer had treated him badly, forcing Jake to unknowingly say some awful things about Jenna. I just can’t figure out if he really does want Jenna back or if he just doesn’t want Jake playing with his toys. An argument could be made for both sides.

In fact, I’d love to hear what you think. Let me know below!
