TNT Orders New Drama Series ‘The Last Ship’

TNT has ordered a pilot for a new action series called The Last Ship, which is based on the novel by William Brinkley that will have Michael Bay as its executive producer.

‘The Last Ship’ is about a global catastrophe that nearly obliterates the Earth’s population, forcing the crew of a naval destroyer to confront the reality of their new existence in a world where they are among the only survivors.

Among the people involved in the project behind the scenes are Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, whose credits include ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ and ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’. Hank Steinberg (the man behind the CBS drama ‘Without a Trace’) will serve as showrunner and executive producer alongside Steven Kane (‘The Closer’). These two men will also write the script for the pilot.

“The book The Last Ship is a gripping page-turner that has all the makings of a terrific television drama, including a great premise, memorable characters, intense situations and heart-racing action,” said Michael Wright, who is the Head of Programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM).

It should be noted, however, that only a pilot has been ordered to date by the network with no airdate yet set; but should this fall’s new ABC drama ‘Last Resort’ – which also focuses on a group of naval officers – succeeds, TV viewers could see this show popping up on the screen.
