Legendary Actress Dame Diana Rigg and Daughter Rachel Stirling to Star in ‘Doctor Who’

Legendary actress Dame Diana Rigg, best known for her role in the cult-classic TV series ‘The Avengers’ and her actress daughter Rachel Stirling will be making a guest appearance together on an upcoming episode of the longest-running TV series in history: Doctor Who.

The duo will star in an episode set to air next year of the perennial classic series, marking the first time they have worked together on screen. And while details on their characters are being kept under wraps, they will be playing mother and daughter on screen. The twist, of course, is that they have a dark secret that will assuredly be uncovered by the Doctor (Matt Smith) and his new companion (Jenna-Louise Coleman).

Dame Diana shared, “(This is) the first time Rachie and I will be working together, (and it) is on an episode of Doctor Who specially written for us by Mark Gatiss. How lucky is that?” Meanwhile, Rachel shared, “What joy. I am looking forward to the madness of Doctor Who enormously. Mark Gatiss has written a gift of a script and an on-screen relationship between Ma and I that is truly delicious. We have never before worked together because the offers have not been tempting, but when such a funny and original script comes through you know the time has come”.

BBC One will air five stand-alone episodes this fall in the U.K. as well as the annual Christmas special along with eight new episodes next year. Those of in the U.S. will have to be patient for BBC America to schedule these episodes and announce the programming details.
