A&E Orders ‘Bates Motel’ Direct to Series

A&E Orders 'Bates Motel

A&E will be bringing Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Psycho’ to life in present day courtesy of the direct to series 10-episode order for Bates Motel, a new series from Universal Television with Carlton Cuse (‘Lost’) and Kerry Ehrin (‘Friday Night Lights’ and ‘Parenthood’) as executive producers.

‘Bates Motel’ will be a contemporary exploration of the formative years of Norman Bates, his relationship with his mother, Norma, and the world they inhabit. Viewers will have access to the dark, twisted backstory and learn first-hand how Norma helped forge the most famous serial killer of them all.

“We are proud to be partnering with Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin on their thrilling reinvention of one of the most compelling characters in cinematic history,” said Bob DeBitetto, President and General Manager and David McKillop, Executive Vice President of Programming at A&E. “It’s a provocative project from two of the best storytellers in the business and we’re looking forward to getting started”.

Pre-production and casting will begin immediately with ‘Bates Motel’ expected to premiere sometime in 2013 on A&E.
