FX Mania: Anger Management, Wilfred, Louie and BrandX Return Tonight

fx summer 2012 shows
If you’re a fan of FX, tonight’s your night. Four of FX’s original series premiere back to back tonight starting at 9pm and there is plenty to look forward to.

Anger Management

First opening the night Charlie Sheen’s new sitcom, Anger Management. I’ll be honest, this feels like a really odd fit for FX. The channel is known for its edgy shows, yet there is nothing edgy about Anger Management, it’s a typical sitcom you would expect to find on TBS or CBS. Now that doesn’t mean it’s not funny or a good sitcom, it just seems a bit out of place leading the way for series such as Wilfred, Louie and BrandX.

Anger Management tells the story of Charlie (Sheen), a non-traditional therapist who specializes in anger management and runs a weekly session with his group of primary patients. He also volunteers and gives pro bono counseling for an inmate group at a state prison. But Charlie is also dealing with his own anger issues and people in his life, including his therapist/best friend (Selma Blair), his ex-wife (Shawnee Smith), and their 15-year-old daughter who suffers from OCD (Daniela Bobadilla).

If you enjoy sitcoms, then you should give Anger Management a chance. It has some fun moments and could become one of your new weekly sitcoms appointment. On the other hand, if you dislike sitcoms, I would suggest you skip it entirely and directly jump to Wilfred at 10pm.

Oh Wilfred, how I have missed you and your cringy outrageous comments! Even though the series returns tonight for its second season at 10pm, FX already aired a special episode “Progress” last week which gave a look at Ryan’s time in a mental institution away from Wilfred.

In the season 2 premiere episode, “Letting Go,” Ryan tries to rekindle his friendship with Wilfred and decides to help him compete in an obstacle course.

If you’ve been a fan of the series, then it’s back to the craziness of season one. And if you’re wondering about the closet not leading to the basement reveal in the season 1 finale, it is addressed in the episode, maybe not as satisfactory an explanation as you might want, but it allows season 2 to be one its way.

Now in its third season, Louie from Emmy Award-Winning comedian Louis C.K. returns at 10:30pm with quite an outrageous episode. When Louie’s car gets sort of destroyed (in an insanely absurd scene), he decides to buy a motorcycle… I’ll let you imagine the rest.

There is not much else I can say except that if you’ve been a fan, then you’re going to love it and if you haven’t seen the show yet, I would highly suggest you stay tuned in for this one, you might be surprised at how funny it is, plus you’ve gotten this far in the night, might as well stick around, right?

And finally, the night ends with another FX original series, BrandX with Russell Brand, at 11pm. Our very own Michelle Carlbert was invited to attend the first live taping of the series and gave us quite an extensive insight into the series, which you can find here, so I won’t say too much about it, except that I think it’s a great way to end the night with more laughs and talks of current events.

But I do also want to mention the very exciting giveaway we are currently running that could give you the chance to attend one of the taping for BrandX yourself. You can find all the details here.

And that’s all for the night! Hopefully you have gotten a good dose of laughs and are ready for more next week!
