Oscar Winner Jennifer Hudson to Have Arc on Season Two of ‘Smash’

Smash Season 2 Premiere "On Broadway; The Fallout" (4)

Former American Idol finalist and Oscar winning actress Jennifer Hudson will have a multi-episode arc on the musical series Smash when it returns for its second season on NBC.

According to Deadline, she will play Veronica Moore, a Tony Award-winning Broadway star who impacts the lives of Karen (Katharine McPhee) and Ivy (Megan Hilty). “Her character will represent someone who reached their Broadway dream but also paid a price for it,” shared NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt.

Her appearance on ‘Smash’ will reunite her with one of the series’ executive producers, Steven Spielberg, whose company produced the box office film ‘Dreamgirls’ for which Hudson was presented a Best Supporting Actress award during the 2007 Oscars.

Among her other credits are the box office films ‘Sex and the City’, ‘The Secret Life of Bees’, ‘Winnie’ and ‘The Three Stooges’. And besides her Oscar win, Hudson has received a Golden Globe, a Grammy and numerous NAACP Image Awards.

‘Smash’ has not been given an official return date by NBC as yet, but the series is expected to be back with its second season premiere sometime during the mid-season of the 2012-2013 TV season.
