‘Nurse Jackie’ Season 5 Announced

The hit Showtime comedy series Nurse Jackie has been renewed for a fifth season.

As most know, ‘Nurse Jackie’ stars Edie Falco as Jackie Peyton, a strong-willed and brilliant – but very flawed – emergency room nurse. The cast of the series includes Eve Best, Merritt Wever, Paul Schulze, Dominic Fumusa, Anna Deavere Smith and Peter Facinelli. Actor Bobby Cannavale also joined the cast for the fourth season, which has averaged 2.8 million viewers this season.

Meanwhile, a new showrunner – Clyde Phillips – has been named. Phillips, who is a Peabody Award and Emmy Award winner, will take over the reins of the series for its fifth season. According to David Nevins, President of Entertainment at Showtime shared, “Clyde brings a unique combination of skills in both comedy and drama, and he is a master at making entertaining and compelling television”.

Phillips was executive producer and showrunner on the first four seasons of ‘Dexter’ and prior to that, he created the 1990’s comedies ‘Get Real’, ‘Suddenly Susan’ and ‘Parker Lewis Can’t Lose’. Additionally, Phillips is a national best-selling mystery novelist; his fourth book, “Unthinkable“, will be published in January 2013 by Amazon.

The fifth season ‘Nurse Jackie’ will begin production in late 2012 while the next new episode of the current season is set to air this Sunday, June 3 at 9/8c.
