Actor Tim Daly Not Returning for Season Six of ‘Private Practice’

Tim Daly as Dr. Pete Wilder

The news first broke yesterday on Twitter by actor Tim Daly himself, sharing:

“Wonderful fans of PPP. Shonda informed my agent today that Pete won’t be returning for season 6. It was a great 5 yrs. R.I.P. Pete Wilder.”

And with that tidbit out there for mass consumption the news went viral, making its rounds at all of the major outlets, including TV Guide.

It is sad news, indeed, for fans of the ABC medical drama that was renewed, somewhat under the wire, by ABC during this month’s upfront presentations in New York City. According to TV Guide, when they visited the set of ‘Private Practice’, Daly seemed “ready to say goodbye”. He shared that he learned something about himself while working on the show stating, “being part of a large ensemble is not what I’m best suited to”. He also shared that if the show were to get another season he would be “happy to be here and…give it everything I’ve got. If not, then I will go off and go to New York and do some theater and find my way to whatever is next for me”.

With his status on the show now made clear, it will be interesting to see if Daly follows this path, but what is somewhat unclear is what path will be ahead for his character Pete Wilder, who was last seen being released on bail after the mercy killing of one of his patients.

Fans will have to tune in to ‘Private Practice’ on ABC on Tuesday nights at 10 PM this fall to find out.
