ABC Orders Third Season of ‘Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition’

As confirmed by TV Guide, the ABC Network has ordered season 3 of Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition. While season 2 of the series has yet to air with a premiere date of June 3rd, ABC signed on for another year of 15 episodes. The early pick up will allow the cast and crew of the series to begin filming the third season of ‘Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition’.

Executive producer JD Roth spoke out about the pick-up. “In my mind, this is a huge franchise that has been on the air for a while, but in reality, only eight episodes have aired so far.” Roth also added that fans will see more in the new season since the show will now air 2 hour episodes next year. “We can let the story breathe. There’s much more storytelling now.”

Motivational trainer Chris Powell will be back as host in the reality show’s third year with some members of season 2 who will return as “weight-loss ambassadors.” Two of the returning members include Jacqui, who Roth has deemed one of “the greatest transformation I’ve ever seen for any show I’ve done.” And Tony, a participant who became homeless in season 2.

Season 3 of ‘Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition’ will debut in 2013.
