Fairly Legal “Kiss Me Kate” Review – What is Kate Thinking??

Fairly Legal Kiss Me Kate Season 2 Episode 9

In tonight’s episode of Fairly Legal, called “Kiss Me Kate,” Kate really, really pissed me off.

I’m sorry to be crass but there’s really no better way to put that.

Kate is asked by judge Nicastro to mediate a contract negotiation between the union and the Bay City Metro. And while she handles that entire situation with her usual wit and professionalism, it’s her personal life that needs some help. Still reeling mentally from the kiss with Ben and not sure what to make of it, Kate does her best to avoid Ben so she doesn’t have to think or talk about it.

Ben on the other hand is as cool as a cucumber about the whole thing and immediately asks her out to dinner. Nothing crazy – he doesn’t even call it a date, just dinner. So what does Kate do? Well, first she agrees to it and even seems excited by the prospect. But then something happens and she gets scared and before we know it, she’s in bed with Justin.

Maybe it’s unfair to be mad at Kate, knowing how crazy her life has been and how much she has been through recently. But dangit, I’ve started really liking Ben in these last couple episodes and now I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around what she did to him. Did she go to bed with Justin because he was the ‘safe’ choice? Because they’re divorced now so nothing long term can happen with them and therefore she doesn’t have to be scared, like she apparently is with Ben?

I really have no clue and now I feel sort of sorry for Ben, because though we’ve seen how he can be a real a-hole sometimes, he was anything but in this situation. Though I guess I should tip my hat to the writers. If they were looking for a way to make me 100% sure that I liked Ben, this episode did it.

My favorite bits..

Kate talking to a customer service rep about the kiss with Ben.

Kate calling Ben an idiot – but not the stupid kind, the idiot kind. Is it weird that I totally get that?

Kate telling Joe that it was a decent kiss. Yeah it sure looked that way to me.

“Did you forget me in the cab again?”

Kate trying to pretend that she was on the phone, when it started ringing. Oops.

Holy crap, that’s Meat Loaf.

“Excuse me, my name is Kate Reed and you can shut the frak up.” – Haha! You tell’em girl!

Whoa! Hang on. Did they just BLEEP Kate? Ooh.well I can certainly guess what she said.

“I’d rather ‘enjoy’ fifty thousand dollars.”
“Say whaaaat?” – Is it just me or do Ben and Leo sound like Shawn and Gus from Psych?

Ben and Leo fighting over who was going to go after the guy with the paint gun.

Leo telling Kate that he was not her ‘guuurlfriend.’

“It’s a fifty thousand dollar painting.”
“For a buffalo???”

The judge losing control and punching a protester. Uh oh.

Yep, I totally knew that the kid must have done the painting.

Kate pleading with the judge not to give up everything for one mistake.

“Sometimes our instincts need to be ignored.” – Wow, that is so simple and yet so powerful.

Leo asking Kate why she couldn’t wear her business clothes to her business dinner.

Leo’s ‘Zoinks!’ when he figured out who Kate was having dinner with. Classic.

Oh come on! Is Hayward really that idiotic? Opening his trunk in front of Kate with the flyers sitting right there? Jeesh.

Kate immediately putting her coat back on when Justin asked if she was going on a date.

Leo’s not-so-subtle cough when Tom said he wasn’t interested in money.

Leo reminding Kate that she has a tendency to blow things up. I am so with him on this. What is she doing?? My head hurts.

Ben’s text: “It’s just dinner, Katie.” – Awwwww. I don’t know what was cuter, the statement or the fact that he called her ‘Katie.’

Kate!!! Arggh!! What is she doing??? I’m so confused now.

Ben asking Leo, man to man, where Kate was.

“A tree falls in the forest and no one’s there to hear it. Sucks for you, tree.” – Ah Leo, such a poet.

Kate referring to the judge’s track suit as ‘pj’s.’

Leo pretty much echoing my feelings after he saw Ben and Kate’s awkward conversation in the hallway.
