Don’t Trust the B—- In Apartment 23 “Making Rent…” Review – Beek Jeans!

Don't Trust The B---- in Apartment 23 (ABC) Making Rent Episode 5

In every episode of Don’t Trust The B—- In Apartment 23 I find myself relating more and more to June. In this week’s “Making Rent…” June and Chloe each struggle to pay their half of the rent for their (incredibly nice) apartment. Um… yeah, I’ve been in June’s shoes, however my New York Apartment could have fit into June and Chloe’s kitchen, but I digress.

Though she tries various schemes to make money, Chloe finds herself being schooled by June that there is no “gray area” when it comes to right or wrong. Chloe scoffs at first, and then decides to ask James for the rent money, which Luther promptly declines. Meanwhile, June realizes that she can make some cash by selling her homemade jam, and for whatever reason shares this information with Chloe.

Big mistake! Chloe agrees to help June and promptly turns their jam making session into a porn site. June is beside herself and to get back at Chloe lets Robin pay her small sums of money to do various things with Chloe – all without Chloe’s knowledge. June eventually feels really guilty about her little scheme and ends up breaking down to Chloe at James’ party. All ends well, however, when the girls realize that their personalities actually balance each other out.

So recap done, Apartment 23 is still hysterical. While this episode lacked in the laugh out loud funny of previous episodes, it still had me grinning and wondering where the writers would go next with the story. James’ jeans with the “BJ” brand (Beek Jeans) nearly made me cry from laughter. Add that to the “meatballs” billboard and FORGET IT. James’ story line was by far the funniest in “Making Rent”.

I’m also a big fan of Robin and would really like to see more of her creepy, stalkerish self. I almost wish that we didn’t know that Robin just wanted to be Chloe’s friend because she was popular and “everything she wants to be”. It was much creepier when Robin was just stalking Chloe for the sake of stalking.

Here are a few of my favorite Apartment 23 lines from “Making Rent”:

  • “I spilled my soup at lunch. And then a guy’s heart exploded all on me…”
  • “You’re such a good Korean!” “Christian.” “What am I saying?”
  • “… and a goblet of some sort.”
  • “I hope you’re happy. You just sent Bethany off to die.”
  • I’m still loving Apartment 23. It’s still the best comedy on TV right now, and I demand more!
