Canadian Drama ‘Flashpoint’ Will Come to an End

The popular Canadian drama Flashpoint, which is a hit in its home country as well as here in the U.S., will not be renewed beyond its fifth season that is set to air in 2012-2013.

CTV, the largest private broadcaster in Canada, announced yesterday that the series, which focuses on a special tactical team that rescues hostages, busts gangs, defuses bombs, and takes on other tough cases, will come to an end. The series stars Hugh Dillon (‘Durham County’), Enrico Colantoni
(‘Veronica Mars’), Amy Jo Johnson (‘Felicity’) and David Paetka (‘Whistler’) and debuted in 2008 on both CTV and CBS. It has since moved over to the cable channel ION here in the States.

“Flashpoint has paved the way for other amazing Canadian productions, proving that if you make great television, Canadians will watch,” said Phil King, CTV programming president, in a statement.

The fifth season of the Canadian cop drama is currently in production, but an official airdate for the start of the fifth and final season has yet tobe announced. [Source: Toronto Sun]
