Shonda Rhimes’ (Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice) new drama finally premieres tonight, April 5th at 10pm on ABC. The series (which is one of my favorites from the 2011-2012 season) focuses on Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington), the ruthless owner of a prominent crisis management firm and her team of “gladiators in suits” which include Stephen Finch (Henry Ian Cusick, Lost), Harrison Wright (Columbus Short, Stomp the Yard), Huck (Guillermo Diaz, Half-Baked), Abby Whelan (Darby Stanchfield, Jericho) and new recruit Quinn Perkins (Katie Lowes).

Also in the picture are Olivia’s former boss, President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn, Ghost) and his chief of staff, Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry, Grey’s Anatomy).

Even if you aren’t a fan of Shonda Rhimes’ previous series, you might want to give Scandal a shot because it is pretty amazing. Olivia Pope is such a powerful character and if you are a political junkie and/or want to find out more about the world of crisis management, Scandal has you served. It’s gritty and way bolder than I expected it to be. I have seen the first three episodes and I can tell you that each one will leave you on the edge of seat.

Recently, Scandal‘s team of “gladiators in suits” Darby Stanchfield, Guillermo Diaz, Katie Lowes and Columbus Short took some time to answer a few questions about the series. As you will probably tell from the video below, they are very enthusiastic about the series.

But before I let you enjoy the video, I also wanted to mention a few additional things that were revealed by the cast and producers during our set visit of Scandal.

There is mention of finding out more about each of the characters’ past in the video, but during the set visit a few spoilers slipped the actors’ tongues. We know that each of them have secrets. Darby Stanchfield explained that there is a huge backstory for Abby, which will explain why she is the way she is.

We were told how Harrison (Columbus Short kind of let that one slip) and Huck started working with Olivia. I don’t want to spoil anything, so all I can say is that they don’t overhype it. Even after watching the first three episodes, I did not expect these characters to have this kind of past. Actually I cannot wait to see the episode that reveals it all.

As for new recruit Quinn, Katie Lowes shared that she has a dark past which is the reason why Olivia hired her. (As a side note, the scene of Harrison hiring Quinn is pretty great!)

Fun Fact: Olivia Pope is based on real life crisis manager, Judy Smith, who is also a co-executive producer on the series and of course helps in keeping the series as realistic as possible.

And now it’s time to find out more about Scandal from the mouths of the cast members themselves. Enjoy the video and don’t forget to watch the premiere of Scandal tonight!
