Fairly Legal “Bait and Switch” Review

Fairly Legal (USA) Bait and Switch

In tonight’s episode of Fairly Legal, called “Bait and Switch”, Kate is on the case of a fisherman who lost his hand in an accident on a boat and is now being sued by his own father for negligence, as well as being accused of being a drug addict. Not exactly a happy family.

Ben predictably butts in, trying to get the lawyer for the fisherman fired so he can get the case and sue back. He thinks the whole thing is about money, but Kate is convinced that there’s more to it than that and believes there’s a grudge. Neither of them are right but neither are exactly wrong either, when it turns out that it all started with the death of Owen’s brother; a guy who was the one given drugs by a stupid (if not intentionally murderous) deckhand.

Meanwhile Lauren is fighting for a woman who wants to keep her dead husband’s car collection despite her kids’ desires to sell it. Not only that, but she’s also dealing with the fact that the very handsome opposing attorney (played by Tahmoh Penikett, who I adore) is showing an interest in her. After the judge points out that maybe she shouldn’t let her personal feelings interfere with either the case or Mark’s advances, Lauren takes the next step and moves forward with her life. Personally this made me very happy..and no, it’s not just because this means we will probably see Tahmoh again.

I was also happy to see that Kate and Justin are moving forward as well. After having it out, again, the two decide to be friends and I think that will be very good for both of them. I hate seeing them fight. I think they are much better when they are working together.

As for Ben, well he did show a few more sides to his personality in this one. Sides other than just being a loudmouth. He actually stood up for Kate and proved that he can throw a punch if the situation calls for it. Plus, he *almost* showed some feelings. I think if we get to see a little bit of his softer side, I’ll be apt to like him a bit more. Not that I dislike him, the jury is still out on how I feel about his character. I’m waiting to see what he does.

My favorite bits..

Too funny! My alarm clock has that same snooze-button defect, too. Somebody should really look into those things.

Kate realizing that she’d forgotten to hang up her phone and Leo heard her entire conversation with Justin. Ouch.

Ben offering the firm’s litigation services once the mediation fell apart.

Kate calling Ben her secretary. Haha!

OMG! It’s Tahmoh Penikett. Love him so much!

“Well, you tried.”
“I’m just old kid, I’m not blind.”

Laughing just as hard as Kate did when Ben suggested he was going in the bar to protect her. Bwahahaha!

The look on Ben’s face when Kate took off her jacket.

“Do you really think it’s smart to be dressed like that in a bar like this?”
“I could ask the same question.”

The look on the judge’s face when Lauren ordered that ridiculous salad.

Ben resorting to offering to buy burly men drinks in the bar, in order to try and get info on his case.

Actually being pleasantly surprised that Ben stepped up to defend Kate. Who knew he could throw a punch like that?

Ben whispering to Leo that Kate had been drinking.

Lauren realizing halfway through her argument that maybe she was putting a little bit of her own feelings into the case.

“You didn’t open up the card?”
“WHAT?? No!…I held it up to the light.”

Lauren admitting that she’s afraid that if she shows an interest in anyone new, that maybe Kate will think she never loved her dad. Aw, that actually makes me feel sad for her.

The judge telling Lauren to get over herself. Haha! Loving all of his pearls of wisdom in this ep.

Ben pointing out that Owen should feel “all warm and fuzzy” that he wouldn’t have to go through life thinking he killed his brother. Wait. Did Ben just show some feelings??? *faints from shock*

Justin admitting that he could never forgive himself for being unfaithful to Kate and her admitting that she didn’t have complete faith in their marriage.

Kate and Justin stopping in their tracks when they saw Lauren and Mark getting into the elevator.

Lauren getting so flustered when she saw Kate that she momentarily forgot Mark’s name. Whoops.

“Oh, she is strange sometimes.”
“Oh SHE’S strange?”
