Well-Known Irish Actor Ciarán Hinds Joins Cast of ‘Political Animals’

Ciaran Hinds the debt 01

Actor Ciarán Hinds has appeared on television in the acclaimed series ‘Rome’ and in box office films like ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, ‘The Debt’ and ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’. Now he will be back on TV in the much-anticipated six-episode USA Network drama Political Animals.

The series from Executive Producers Greg Berlanti (‘Dirty Sexy Money’ and ‘Everwood’) and Laurence Mark (‘Jerry Maguire’) centers on newly-appointed Secretary of State Elaine Barrish (to be played by Sigourney Weaver), balancing both personal and political crises.

Hinds will play Bud Hammond, a jovial former president (and Elaine’s ex-husband) who was once loved by the American public, but whose out-of-office antics caused a tumble in his popularity. He still holds a candle for his wife, and eagerly awaits the call to become her elder statesman.

As we previously reported here, the cast includes actors Sebastian Stan (‘Gossip Girl’), James Wolk (‘Lone Star’) as polar-opposite twin brothers and actress Carla Gugino (‘Watchmen’ and ‘Entourage’) as a journalist hell-bent on destroying Barrish’s career.

‘Political Animals’ is expected to debut on the USA Network sometime this summer.
