Starz Gives Season Two Order to ‘Magic City’ Before Debut Set to Air

It what can be seen as a surprise move the cable outlet Starz has given their new period drama Magic City a 10-episode season two order BEFORE the series even debuts.

‘Magic City’ is set in Miami’s Miramar Playa Hotel leading into the new year of 1959. Hotelier Ike Evans (Jeffrey Dean Morgan from ‘Watchmen’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’) conjures up ways to finance his dream. He has essentially sold his soul to the devil, mob boss Ben “The Butcher” Diamond (Danny Huston from ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’). Ike’s wife Vera (Olg Kurylenko from ‘Quantum of Solace’), a former showgirl, and his three children think he is an honorable man, but he just can’t break his pact with the most dangerous criminal in town.

The series features an ensemble cast that includes Steven Strait (‘City Island’), Christian Cooke (‘Cemetery Junction’), Jessica Marais (‘Packed to the Rafters’) and Yul Vazquez (‘The A-Team’ and ‘American Gangster’). The series comes from creator MItch Glazer and will be executived produced by Geyer Kosinski (‘Changeling’ and ‘The Astronaut Farmer’).

The drama will air its series premiere on Starz on April 6 at 10/9c with production of season two expected to begin later this year. Season two is expected to air in 2013.
