Scottish Singer and Stage Actor Darius Campbell Lands ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Lead

Darius Campbell, a Scottish platinum-selling singer and stage actor, has landed the lead role in the ABC drama pilot Beauty and the Beast that will be a fantasy re-imaging of the classic fairytale. In this story – not to be confused with the planned pilot by The CW – will tell the story of embattled princess, Grace, who discovers an unlikely connection with a mysterious beast, Shiro (Campbell), a mercenary bodyguard. The role of Grace has yet to be cast while actor Chris Egan (‘Kings’) will play Grace’s fiancé Gorrick.

Campbell is a virtual unknown here in the U.S., but he rose to fame in the U.K. as a finalist on ‘Popstars’ and ‘Pop Idol’ and has since appeared in a number of musicals on the West End, including ‘Chicago’ and ‘Guys and Dolls’.

TV viewers should keep in mind that this casting is simply for a pilot and there is no guarantee that the ABC version of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ nor The CW version (which will be loosely based on the 1980’s CBs series of the same name) will be picked up for the fall. [Source: Deadline]
