Smallville Beauty Kristin Kreuk Lands Lead in The CW ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Pilot

Kristin Kreuk

Actress Kristin Kreuk, who rose to fame on the long-running series ‘Smallville’ as Lana Lang, will be headed back to The CW for its new pilot Beauty and the Beast, which will be loosely based on the 1980’s CBS series of the same name that starred Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman.

In this new version, according to Deadline, Kreuk will star as Catherine, a tough-minded NYPD Homicide Detective haunted by witnessing her mother’s murder nine years ago and the killers’ quick demise at the hands of a Beast. After years of searching, Catherine finally finds the Beast, Vincent Koslow, the survivor of a military experiment that went disastrously wrong, and becomes the protector of his secret life as a bestial superhero.

Gary Fleder (Runaway Jury) will direct the pilot that will be written by Jennifer Levin and Sherri Cooper (Brothers and Sisters), who will also executive produce along with Ron Koslow, the creator of the original series.

Besides her work on ‘Smallville’, Kreuk has appeared in episodes of ‘Chuck’, the Canadian series ‘Edgemont’, the box office film ‘Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li’ and the made-for-TV movies ‘Earthsea’ and ‘Snow White: The Fairest of Them All’.
