Royal Pains “Hank And The Deep Blue Sea” Review

Royal Pains (USA) Hank and the Deep Blue Sea

This episode of Royal Pains, called “Hank And The Deep Blue Sea,” ended in a way I never saw coming, at least not like that. I gotta give the writers props because while I had a terrible, awful feeling that we were going to lose Jack, they completely lulled me into a false sense of security and I sure as heck did not expect us to lose him in the last 30 seconds of the episode. Though I am sort of happy that we didn’t see it happen on screen. If that had happened, we would have seen Hank being a doctor, but this way we see his reaction as a friend. And all of those nice little friendship moments they gave us right before the end, the bromance stuff I love so much, all of it just made my heart hurt more when Jack was gone. Poor, poor Hank. I’m sure he’s going to have a hard time getting over this one.

In addition to the tragedy, we got another surprise in this episode. We’ve been waiting all “summer” for it and now Boris is back, with all of the intrigue that he usually brings with him. This time it’s not so much about the mutation that may or may not someday kill him, or the fact that his entire family had been poisoned for centuries, it’s all about a family member coming back into his life. A cousin whose idea of making peace is to have Dieter arrested, which actually works for a guy like Boris. So now I wonder if this means that other family members are going to start coming out of the woodwork, too.

Finally there was Divya’s financial situation, which was wrapped up pretty nicely when Evan convinced her to let him (temporarily) buy her shares of HankMed. I’m pretty happy that the truth is finally out with everyone and she can move on now.

My favorite bits..

“You ever get paid in pedicures?”
“If you could see my toes, you would know the answer to that.” – Now I’m curious what his toes look like.

Evan knowing that Hank had treated Jim, just by the fact that there was a bag of fish in the fridge.

“Oh sure yeah I’ll fix it, I’ll just go grab a needlepoint kit from my hope chest.”
“That’d be a lot funnier if you didn’t have a hope chest.”

Boris asking Hank to be his son’s godfather.

Jack calling Jill “Jilligan.”

Hank stopping Evan before he could go into his Godfather impression.

Divya warning Evan not to break anything either. Too funny because I was just thinking how Luke kinda reminded me of a young Evan.

Feeling very worried when I saw Jack lay down. He doesn’t look good.

Knowing as soon as I heard Evan talking about selling off a bond and transferring money to his account that he was planning on helping Divya.

A gift that has to be delivered at a very specific time? Uh oh…

Evan immediately giving said gift to one of Boris’ bodyguards. Smart man.

Literally gasping out loud when Jack passed out on that dock.

Thinking that Nina sure didn’t know Hank very well if she had to ask if he was actually going to do the procedure out there on the dock. Um, duh.

“Oh Panky…..was the whole stabbing in the chest thing necessary? I thought we were friends.”

Evan trying to stand up on that paddle board, and then claiming that, unless you were a gondolier, it was showing off.

“Okay, here’s what I’ve been thinking.”
“Five truly terrifying words.”

“HankMed is a family business, founded by two brothers and a Divya.” – Aw.

Jack giving Hank a thumbs up as they wheeled him away.

Evan being more fascinated by the fact that Dieter was still wearing glasses, than the fact that he was in cuffs.

Hank holding Jack’s hand.

Hank telling Jack that he wasn’t staying there as his doctor, but as his friend. Awwww.

Jack telling that silly joke to make Hank smile, and thanking him for being at the dock. Okay seriously, are they TRYING to make me bawl like a baby? Cuz it’s not working…..nope, totally not working. *wipes away stray tears*

Okay wait. What?? NO!!! I can’t believe it happened that fast. Oh Hank. *goes back to crying*
