Syfy Returns With A Tempting Season For ‘Being Human’ And Introduces ‘Lost Girl’ [Reviews]

Tonight, Syfy returns with an entire supernatural night starting at 9pm, when the second season of Being Human premieres along with the series premiere of the wonderful Lost Girl at 10pm, you won’t want to miss a second of it.

Being Human Season 2

Being Human returns for its much anticipated second season tonight. About a month has passed since the events of last season’s finale and the premiere brings quite a few excitements. In fact I absolutely love this season’s new slogan:

“Tempation is a Beast”

You’ll start seeing this come true right in the premiere episode “Turn This Mother Out.”

Aidan is now the new temporary boss in Boston until Mother decides what to do with Bishop’s leftover army of vampires. And in case you were wondering, yes we do meet Mother in this episode (she’s pretty badass!). Turns out she has plans for Aidan that might not be in his best interest.

Sally decides to go to her high school reunion where she meets another ghost Stevie, who used to go to school with her and learns a new ghostly trick. One of many to come.

As for Josh is dealing with Nora knowing about his werewolf, while she tries to figure out the effects of that scratch he gave her last season. Now I won’t reveal what actually happens, but let’s just say you’ll want to watch the episode until the very last second.

Speaking of last second, the episode ends on a pretty big cliffhanger. You’ll pretty much be throwing things at your TV. And that’s just episode one.

The second episode “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?” I think is even better than the first one. Now that the groundwork has been laid, it’s time to get dirty and I think we get a deeper look at what temptation each character will face this season and let’s just say it’s not pretty. And if you’ve been hoping for Sally to get more to do, I think your wish might be granted this season… although it might come at a price for Sally. Remember, “Temptation is a Beast.”

Oh and I just also want to mention the appearance of a new character played by Natalie Brown (who is adorable), who comes into Aidan’s life. Here is hoping we’ll see lots more of her.

I am so unbelievably excited for this new season of Being Human. If you have been a fan of the original series, let me tell you, last season already started to take a separate path and this season is pretty much off the rails and I have no idea what’s going to happen next. It’s great.

Don’t forget to watch the season premiere of Being Human tonight, January 16th, at 9pm on Syfy. I am also including a video featuring “A Look Ahead” for Season 2. Please be aware it does include some spoilers, and funny enough, not much of the footage shown includes the first two episodes. Enjoy!

Lost Girl

And if you can’t get enough of supernatural for one night, you need to give Canadian series Lost Girl a chance, as it makes its US premiere right after the Being Human second season premiere. The series follows Bo (Anna Silk) a Succubus, who feeds off sexual energy in order to survive. Originally raised by human parents, Bo found out about her power when she unintentionally “drained” her first boyfriend to death.

Now living on her own and trying to figure out who she is, Bo discovers she is one of the Fae, creatures of legend and folklore, who pass as humans while feeding off them in secret. Now she is faced with a decision, pledging her alliance to the Dark or the Light Fae clan. Instead of choosing, Bo decides to take the middle path and become a protector for humans, while navigating the secrets of the Fae world.

Lost Girl is pretty fantastic, I would describe it as Buffy meets Supernatural and if that’s not enough to convince you to tune in, then nothing will.

Anna Silk is absolutely wonderful as Bo and I guarantee you’ll fall in love with her after one episode. But she’s not the only one worthy of mention, Ksenia Solo plays Kenzi, Bo’s human confidante, and is freaking adorable. And there’s also Kris Holden-Ried as Dyson, a homicide detective who’s also Bo’s handsome love interest and a shape-shifter. And there are even more interesting characters that you will meet in the Fae world, some of who will become Bo’s allies.

As for the story, well similar to Buffy and Supernatural, Lost Girl has an overall arc story that carries throughout the season, but each episode also focuses on a different case Bo takes on. The great thing about Lost Girl is that every episode you learn a little bit more about the Fae world and also discover different types of creatures living in that realm.

As a said this series is perfect for supernatural fans, so if you’ve been looking for a new exciting show to add to your schedule, look no further and set a season pass for Lost Girl, you won’t regret it.

Lost Girl premieres tonight, January 16th, at 10pm on Syfy.
