Broadway Star Jonathan Groff To Return to GLEE

Broadway actor Jonathan Groff will be making a return visit to McKinley High as Jesse St. James on GLEE.

But the big difference this time around, according to the folks over at TV Line, is that Jesse will not be a student competing against former flame Rachel (series regular Lea Michele and Groff’s real-life best friend) but rather as [SPOILER ALERT] the new coach of rival school choir Vocal Adrenaline, the group for which he was the former lead singer.

As fans of the show will recall, Groff first appeared in a number of episodes throughout season 2, wrecking havoc on the Finnchel (Finn and Rachel) relationship and creating major competition between New Directions, the McKinley High Glee Club and Vocal Adrenaline. It will prove interesting what his new role in the musical sparring between the two groups will bring out in all those concerned.

Groff originated the role of Melchior Gabor in the Broadway production of Spring Awakening (starring alongside Glee’s Michele) and has also toured nationally with the production of The Sound of Music. He appeared in the box office film Taking Woodstock.

The next new episode of Glee, now in its third season, is slated to air on FOX on Tuesday, November 1 at 8/7c.
