AMERICAN HORROR STORY “Halloween Part One” Review

AMERICAN HORROR STORY (FX) Halloween Episode 4 (2)

AMERICAN HORROR STORY “Halloween Part One” Episode 4 – All I’m saying is that AMERICAN HORROR STORY continues to shock me each week, and “Halloween Part One” was no exception.

Like several other episodes, American Horror Story starts us off with a story of the history of the house; this time with the two men that killed themselves before the Harmon family moved in. It turns out that the pair were not exactly getting along very well; but much like the Harmon’s, all of their money was tied into the house and they couldn’t sell it.

Long story short, the two didn’t actually kill themselves, it was the man in the rubber suit that did the deed. However, since it IS Halloween, the one day the dead can freely roam the earth, the pair aren’t gone for long and soon return to the house as hired help from the Realtor.

The Harmon’s need to sell, and need to sell fast, so they welcome the men inside to help them improve the image of the place. It doesn’t really go according to plan; and instead of helping the family, more doubt is just put on Vivien in regard to Ben’s affair.

So much doubt, that she pulls the cell phone records and finds calls to Hayden on the bill. Needless to say Viv is none too pleased and tells Ben (despite his arguments that Hayden will NOT be calling anymore) that she placed a phone call to Hayden herself. Imagine Ben’s surprise when the phone rings and it’s Hayden calling from beyond.

Vivien doesn’t answer, instead heads downstairs for their Halloween party. Again, things don’t work out the way they plan and Vivien ends up at the hospital because of the baby. Once there, we learn that she is much farther along than 8 weeks, and something the ultrasound tech finds on the scan is enough to make the poor nurse hit the floor.

Meanwhile, American Horror Story knows no bounds, and while Addy is trick or treating, we see her get hit by a car. Constance tries to drag her back to the house before she dies (my thought is if she dies IN the house, she’ll be able to come back, dying outside of the house doesn’t allow this), but doesn’t get her there in time.

What the HELL American Horror Story?! Not only was Addy’s death SHOCKING, Constance’s reaction was simply HEARTBREAKING. It added a level of humanity to Constance that was needed; and now I’m interested in seeing what revenge she’s going to take for her daughter.

In what was a WONDEFUL first part of “Halloween”, American Horror Story made me cry, made me shake, and made me shake my head and wonder what in the world I was watching. I cannot wait for part two – will we see who is under the rubber mask??
