BODY OF PROOF “Second Chances” Review

BODY OF PROOF “Second Chances” Season 2 Episode 6 – When an experienced equestrian is found dead in the woods, Megan has a hard time figuring out how she died in “Second Chances,” this week’s Body of Proof.

This episode had more red herrings than actual plot points. From the former junkie who wants to become a vet’s assistant to another boarder at the stables…but only one of them can be the killer and that honor goes to the victim’s very jealous boyfriend, who was caught by the fact that he uses some kind of glitter on his horse. Seriously. Glitter.

Fortunately, there was more personal story than mystery in this episode. It turns out both Megan and her daughter enjoying horseback riding, and in a move that proves why she lost primary custody, Megan brings Lacey with her to the stables during the investigtation to demonstrate the safety stirrups that shouldn’t have allowed for the victim to get tangled in the saddle and dragged by her horse.

I liked that Detective Bud thinks Lacey is as much of a pain in his butt as her mother, but then he turned right around and lost some of his edge by helping the junkie reunite with her own, young daughter. I’m not sure what this is supposed to tell us about him. He’s hard on the outside and soft on the inside? Okay. Not terribly original for a secondary cop character, but we’ll go with it.

Meanwhile, spending time with Lacey on the case compels Megan to request more visitation, starting with that very weekend, as Todd has plans to take Megan to Boston with him and Kate. Sounds major. No wonder Lacey would rather stay with her mother. Megan is trying, though, not wasting her second chance at a real relationship with her daughter. It was nice to see Kate supporting her in that, rather than casting herself as the evil stepmother-to-be.

All in all, an average week on Body of Proof.
