HAWAII FIVE-0 “Ka Hakaka Maika’i” Review

Hawaii Five-0 (CBS) KA HAKAKA MAIKAI (The Good Fight)

HAWAII FIVE-0 “Ka Hakaka Maika’i” Season 2 Episode 6 – In this episode, a man is murdered in an apparent home invasion and the team sets out to find the culprits. But the evidence leads them to a copycat and ultimately to the victim’s brother-in-law.

Meanwhile Five-0 gets a visit from a very pretty NCIS agent from Los Angeles. No, I’m not talking about Callen or Deeks. Nope this time it’s Kensi who makes the trip over from the mainland and uses her expert lip-reading skills to give Steve and Joe another piece of the puzzle in the mystery surrounding Steve’s father’s connection to Wo Fat. Trouble is, the more they dig, the worse things get until people start getting hurt. Joe predicted this would happen and now that Steve sees that he’s right, I wonder if it will make him slow down. Somehow I doubt it. Not unless it happens to someone he really cares about.

Overall I liked this episode a lot, probably due to the fact that there wasn’t much of Weston in it (sorry, but it’s true) and the fact that the team felt more like themselves, especially with Kono being back. But I do have one tiny beef. Yes we know Steve is an ex-SEAL, but could we maybe get him to share some of the badassery with Danny every once in a while? Not all the things Steve gets to do have any connection to his military training, at least not that I’m aware of. Unless they’re teaching how to jump off roofs and use surfboards as weapons these days. Steve and Danny are partners and I sure would love to see a little more equality between them. I mean come on, Danny’s a cop from Jersey. I’m sure he can kick all kinds of butt so let’s see him do it. Why not play off the fact that he probably got most of his training in the streets, down and dirty style?

Just sayin’. ;o)

My favorite bits…

A shirtless, sweaty Steve walking out to AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” = Best. Opening. Scene. Ever.

Danny holding up a towel because he was ready to throw it in for Steve. Har.

Yes I knew she was going to be on the show but still, I was really happy when I saw Kensi.

Kensi telling Steve to save up if he was going to take Sam out to dinner, because he could really put away the protein. LOL.

Yum, that loco moco stuff does sound pretty good.

Danny weaning Grace off of fishsticks and on to butter fish. Good for him.

Danny realizing their victim had a son and running out to intercept the kid before he walked in on his father’s body. That was seriously one of the sweetest things I’ve ever seen. I love how protective he is of kids.

Chin reassuring Danny that they were going to find the person who killed that poor boy’s dad.

Feeling very nervous about ever giving my keys over to a valet again.

Yay! It’s so nice to see Kono working with the team again. *cough*theycangetridofWestonnow*cough*

Danny taking down the bad guy with a flying tackle and a sweet punch. Nice.

“By the way..LAWYER!” – I know he was the bad guy and all, but that line cracked me up.

Max sniffing Weston and creeping her out. Aw c’mon, I thought it was kinda sweet.

Steve telling Joe that Kensi reminded him of Joe’s third wife – tall, dark and lethal. Ha! Yeah that does sound just like Kensi.

Yelling “No!” at my TV when Wo Fat told Joe to give a message to Steve’s dead father.

Daaaaaaamn! That was one helluva fight. Go Joe go!

“Am I driving? …of course I’m driving.” – Poor Danny, I don’t think he’s ever going to drive his own car again. At least not on the job.

“I would not engage him hand to hand.”
“That’s not going to happen, I like my gun.”

Danny hollering at Steve when he jumped off that roof.

OMG! I spoke too soon. DANNY IS DRIVING HIS CAR!??

Danny giving Steve trouble for engaging the guy hand to hand. Hey, at least he got the guy.

Feeling so bad for that poor woman. I can’t imagine what it would be like to find out that your husband killed your brother.

Nearly busting a gut laughing when Kamekona sat down next to Max and made the bench move.

Ah okay, now I know why Steve is fighting. I thought at first his opponent was a suspect or something.

Danny telling Steve to stay down and asking him if they could go home now. After seeing the way Steve was getting his ass handed to him, I can’t blame Danny for asking.

Joe asking Steve how many more lives was it going to cost for him to keep looking for the truth. Ouch.
