SURVIVOR: SOUTH PACIFIC “Taste the Victory” Review

SURVIVOR: SOUTH PACIFIC “Taste the Victory” Season 23 Episode 5 – Survivor returned this week with showing us Stacy coming to Redemption Island, and she was not feeling “Hunkadory” about it. Man, she bothers me. I can’t even understand what she’s saying half the time. I feel like every season of Survivor has its requisite “Sassy black woman”, but sometimes they can get pretty far, like Taj or Cirie. However, Stacy is more sass than strategy, and that’s why she’s on Redemption with nothing but her sour grapes.

Thankfully, Stacy went home after the duel, but not before going on an anti-Ben (Coach) rant, and revealing him as the leader of their tribe. This really bothered Coach, as he apparently has been called Coach since he was 18, even by his own parents! Now don’t get me wrong, I like Coach, but you’ve got to have some serious self-esteem issues to demand for people to call you “Coach” for most of your life.

Man, I could barely make it through watching that immunity challenge. I guess I need to be careful what I wish for, as I’ve been bemoaning Survivor these last few seasons for not having very original challenges. Survivor definitely shut me up this week with one of the grossest, yet entertaining challenges we’ve seen in a while. I was cringing and closing my eyes every time one of the contestants had to pick the dangling meat from another contestants with their teeth! Are you kidding me?! Man, that challenge was fun to watch.

Upolu managed to win again, and sent Savaii to yet another tribal council. Cochran comes off very funny and quirky most of the time, but I could see how his eccentricities could become annoying after a while. Thankfully, though, he’s going to stick around for at least one more week as Elyse gets blindsided at tribal when all signs were pointing to him. It was a close call, but my boy’s sticking around, baby!

Random Thoughts:

– I bet Ozzy is really regretting getting that red paint all over his shirt on day one. It’s still there, and it still looks ugly.

– Man, I love Cochran. Likening Ozzy to “Mogley” was awesome.

– I think I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve heard Rick speak.
