PSYCH “Shawn Rescues Darth Vader” Advance Review

Psych (USA) Shawn Rescues Darth Vader

PSYCH “Shawn Rescues Darth Vader” Season 6 Episode 1 – Before writing this review, I pulled out my review from last season’s finale just to see what my thoughts were back then. First of all I can’t believe it’s been nearly a YEAR since we last saw a new episode of Psych and second of all, my worry about what they were going to do now that the Ying Yang story is wrapped up was silly. After a year I’ve got s new perspective and I’m sure that the writers will have no problem coming up with even better storylines than that one.

Now while this episode doesn’t introduce any major characters that are going to come back to haunt Shawn and Gus later (at least I don’t think any of them will, you never know on this show), it did give us some very cool moments. Sure there was all the wacky fun that usually goes into a Psych episode and it made me laugh out loud (like, *really* loud) a bunch of times, but it also delved just a wee bit more into the relationship between Shawn and Juliet.

You may recall that we ended last season with Lassie discovering the couple’s little secret and let me just say that they don’t leave that story under the rug. Oh no, it pops up front and center and makes an appearance pretty soon in the episode. Not only that, but there is quite a big revelation (at least in my mind) that comes up about their relationship as well.

Unfortunately, there’s not much more I can tell you without spoiling it. Shawn does indeed save Darth Vader but you’re just going to have to watch and see exactly how he goes about that major feat.

My favorite non-spoilery bits..

Four words: Shawn in a tux. And for the record let me just say..yum.

“I am not your mother.”
“He didn’t say that Shawn.”

Carlton finding a clever way to try and get Juliet to admit her affair with Shawn.

“It’s okay, I’m a psychic.” – I wonder if that line would work for me?

“Though a raccoon with a video camera would be an ideal suspect.”

Woody the coroner saying something a little wacky and, well, a lot creepy.

Shawn being called a twit by a 12-year-old. Classic.

“Have fun swimming in my pee!”

Shawn coming up with the best pronunciation for “Zurich” ever.

“Ambassador, I’ll need a moment to evaluate your wood.”

Finding out the various places that Shawn gets his British accent from.

Shawn finding an interesting way to park a car.

“Gus, don’t be the Mystery Mousekatool.”

Finding out that one of Gus’ stress-relief fantasies involves shooting Shawn in the head repeatedly.

Carlton getting to fulfill what I assume has to be one of his biggest fantasies involving Shawn.

Season 6 of Psych premieres tonight at 10pm. After you’ve watched the episode, be sure to come back up and let me know what you thought. I’d love to hear from you!
