HOUSE Season 8 Premiere Advance Review

House season 8 Episode 1 (9)
HOUSE returns tonight for its eighth season, but there is something different. After the events of last season’s finale, you didn’t really expect House to just go about his day did you? Well you would have been right, because in the premiere episode “Twenty Vicodin,” we find House (where else) in prison.

The season 8 premiere is similar to the season 6 premiere “Broken” which featured House in a mental institution. A year has passed since the events of last season and House is serving his sentence for crashing into Cuddy’s house. The episode focuses solely on House in prison, so don’t expect to see any of the other cast members. However, we do meet a new character who will be joining House’s team, Dr. Jessica Adams (Odette Annable), a doctor working at the prison who takes an interest in House (who wouldn’t).

I really enjoyed “Twenty Vicodin,” it was nice to once again see House being House, and not a psychotic boyfriend who would crash into his ex-girlfriend’s house. Last season’s finale really made House unlikable for me, and no matter what the excuses were (House knew the kid was away, he knew no one was in the living room), I don’t care, nothing excuses what he did because he could have killed someone (what if the roof had caved in?). And so this premiere is sort of a redemption for me and I am so glad they did put him in prison.

In addition, the season 6 premiere “Broken” to this day is probably my favorite House episode, it was brilliant! And while this episode is definitely not as good, it’s in the same vain. Maybe the reason I enjoyed this one and “Broken” so much is because they focus on the character of House, which is really the main reason I watch the show, and/or maybe it’s because ever since House broke up the Cameron/Chase/Foreman trio the show has never been the same for me, so these “special” episodes at least give me a House that is uncompromised by his new crew.

Whatever the reason, all I know is that the season 8 premiere reconciled me with House and I am really excited to see what the writers have in store for us this season.

So don’t forget to tune in tonight, October 3 at 9pm on FOX and watch the season 8 premiere of House.
