night at the movies horror stephen king
TCM is back tonight with another one of its specials A NIGHT AT THE MOVIES. This time it brings A NIGHT AT THE MOVIES: THE HORRORS OF STEPHEN KING, an hour long interview with Stephen King as he takes us through the horror genre, one monster at a time. TCM is using A Night at the Movies: The Horrors of Stephen King to launch off its horror movie filled month of October. Now, that is something I can get behind!

At first, when I heard about this special I thought it would be an interview with Stephen King about his horror movies and how he wrote them, developed them and brought them to life. Much to my surprise, very few of his movies were mentioned. However, when you are known as the king of horror, you usually have an opinion or two about the genre and other movies made. Stephen King is no different.

This special is a fun and insightful look into what makes a good horror movie, what makes viewers want to watch horror, and how the genre and movie making has changed over the years. We also get to find out what movie prompted Stephen King’s interest in horror, how that fascination grew into something more, and what movies he is particularly fond of. From everything to vampires, werewolves, monsters, zombies, hauntings, the supernatural, Stephen King covers it all. So many movies were mentioned that I could not even keep track, and I soon found myself trying to anticpate what he would talk about next. I was happy to find that many of the movies that I consider to be staples of the genre, Mr. King did as well.

A Night at the Movies: The Horrors of Stephen King is the work of Laurent Bouzereau who is the writer, director and producer of this special, as well as two other A Night at the Movies that aired in 2009. He also has another special coming out around Christmas. Mr. Bouzereau is on to something here. I loved the format. Even though it was an interview, we never see the interviewer. It is only Stephen King sitting there seemingly talking directly to us. It was the perfect way to present his thoughts.

I encourage you to tune in tonight at 8pm to TCM’s A Night at the Movie: The Horrors of Stephen King. I promise you won’t be disappointed and it is a great way to start off the beginning of horror’s favorite holiday month. If you tune in, come back here and tell me what you thought and what was the most surprising thing you found out about Mr. King.
