PARKS AND RECREATION “Ron & Tammys” Review

Parks and Recreation

PARKS AND RECREATION “Ron & Tammys” Season 4 Episode 2 – I would like to preface this review by saying PARKS AND RECREATION made me spit my morning coffee all over my laptop this morning. That is all. If I could leave it at that for a sense of mystery, I would.

Suffice it to say that “Ron and Tammys” was fantastic. Last week Tammy One came back into the picture and told Ron that he was going to be audited by the IRS. This week, Leslie, Andy and April try to help Ron get organized for this event.

Ron starts out by saying income taxes are illegal, and then dumps out his “finances” which include bits of paper that say “I bought supplies”, pictures of him shaking hands with another guy in what he describes as a “gentleman’s deal” (Ron built a table for the guy who paid him in half a pig). THESE are the kind of records that Ron keeps.

He also explains that Tammy One was one of the nurses when he was born, his Sunday School teacher, his math teacher in fourth grade, and his driver’s ED teacher. Ron Swanson lives in a VERY small town, apparently. Ron goes on to explain that Tammy is evil and can brainwash the people around her, which is evidenced when she walks into the office and has everyone doing her bidding in two seconds.

After taking a week off from work, Ron returns clean shaven, with a cell phone, and asking Tammy’s permission to do ANYTHING – even have lunch with Leslie. Sensing desperate times, Leslie tries to enlist the help of Tammy Two, but she explains that there is no way to get Tammy One away from Ron. Then Andy has an idea and brings in Ron’s mother – Tamara (who goes by Tammy).

Tammy and Tammy have a drinking contest. If mom Swanson wins, Ron returns to the farm with her. If Tammy One wins, she gets to stay. Leslie jumps in and says if SHE wins, Ron stays with her. Ron begs her not to drink the liquor, saying the only thing that it can be used legally for is stripping paint off of motorboats.

This is when the episode gets REALLY funny. In about two seconds, Leslie is WASTED, and destroys her office in a drunken stupor. April decides to “stand in” but can’t even get one shot down. That’s when Ron puts an end to the madness and drinks the entire jug in one swig.
Parks and Recreation has so many small idiosyncrasies that make it the amazing show that it is, it’s hard to write WHY it’s so funny. The writers are some of the best in the business and have created a cast of characters that are second to none.

I cannot wait for next week and new Parks and Rec!
