LUTHER Season 3 Announced August 31, 2011 Luther, News The second season of the BBC series LUTHER has yet to air here in the States, but the folks at BBC One, one of the main network in the UK, has announced that season 3 of the critically acclaimed series has been ordered. Idris Elba stars as John Luther, a Detective Chief Inspector working for the Serious Crime Unit in Britain, who is a dedicated ‘copper’, but has his own demons to battle. He is what is called a “whirlwind genius” and is an “inspired maker of connections”. He has paid a heavy price for his dedication to the job and has been known to be “dangerous in the violence of his fixations”. Reportedly, season 2 outperformed season 1, on average, attracting over 5 million viewers and was well received by critics. [Source: IndieWire] There is no word yet on how many episodes will be contained in season 3 or, for that matter, when it will actually air in the UK; but estimates have it airing sometime in mid-2012. American audiences can expect to see season 3 several months afterwards, as that seems to be the standard lag-time between the cross-continent airings. Luther will return for its second season on BBC America starting on September 28 at 10/9c.
