The new one-hour drama LONGMIRE, based on the Walt Longmire Mystery series of novels by Craig Johnson, has been given a 10-episode order by A&E. Actor Robert Taylor (The Matrix) stars as the titular character Walt Longmire, a charismatic, dedicated and unflappable sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyoming. Widowed only a year, he is a man in psychic repair but buries his pain behind his brave face, unassuming grin and dry wit.

Among the cast are actress Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) who will play Vic, a Philadelphia detective transferred to the small Wyoming town, becoming one Walt’s deputies; actress Cassidy Freeman (Smallville) as Longmire’s daughter; Lou Diamond Phillips (Stargate Universe) as Walt’s best friend, and Bailey Chase (Saving Grace) as another deputy.

It is anticipated that Longmire will air on A&E in 2012. [Source: Deadline]
