TRUE BLOOD “Burning Down the House” Review

TRUE BLOOD “Burning Down the House” Season 4 Episode 10 – And we’re back with a new episode of True Blood “Burning Down the House” in which they didn’t actually burn the house, but are definitely getting ready to do it. Let’s talk about the episode.

Andy and Terry

Andy finally got caught with V on him, which lead to some great scenes between him and Terry this episode.

I think it’s the first time we really understand the dynamic between these two and get a glimpse of what it was like for them growing up together. I really loved their interaction, it was a nice break from all the supernatural drama going on. A reminder that even though this is a show with vampires, werewolves, witches, and what not, humans also make up part of the story.

Please can we get rid of Debbie next season? Pretty please! I haven’t trusted her from the first time we saw Alcide back with her and after the look she was giving Marcus in this episode, I’m guessing her and Alcide will soon be a thing of the past.

Sam and Tommy

Ok did not see this coming at all. Even though Tommy can be a pain in the butt sometimes (ok most of the time), I really didn’t think they would actually kill him. Dammit, that brat made me care for him… when did that happen? Now I wish Sam had had more time with him. Boo!

I also have to mention that Marcus better watch his back because now Sam is coming after him with a vengeance. He might even have help from Alcide, now that could be interesting.

She’s a powerful little cookie this one. She was able to break the spell on Eric, oh and that means old Eric is back! Yay!

But the reunion was not only short lived, but not as happy as Eric thought it would be. The reason? Sookie still loves Bill (Yay!):

“I just couldn’t bare the thought of a world without him in it.” -Sookie about Bill

In other news, Sookie has not been kidnapped by Antonia/Marnie, but I have to wonder, since she was able to break the spell put on Eric, couldn’t she also fight Antonia/Marnie, at least a little?

I would love to see a Sookie/Antonia/Marnie showdown!

Eric is back, finally! But there is still something different about him, some remnants from new Eric, and I think I kind of like it. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see much of him in this episode, so let’s hope old Eric is ready to kick some witches’ ass in the next episode.

Oh Bill, he just knows how to deal with things that one. Actually he was right, if he had been allowed to get rid of Marnie in the first place, they wouldn’t be in this mess.

Lesson for the day: Always trust Bill’s instincts!

In his own very Jason way, he Asks Jessica to glamour him so he doesn’t feel guilty when looking at Hoyt… oh Jason you just know how to make a girl feel special don’t you?!

And yet, he’s one of my favorite characters just because he always puts a smile on my face. Plus he gets extra points this episode for helping Sookie out and being the only one who didn’t get kidnapped.

Random Thought: Whatever happened to these panther bites? Have we totally moved on from that? Did this whole storyline lead up to nothing more than some weird rape scenes?

So turns out Marnie is even worse than Antonia, who would have thought? Although I never really liked Marnie in the first place, but still I never thought she would be the one convincing Antonia to move forward with their plan to eliminate all vampires. Yikes!

Jesus as a demon in him or like Lafayette would say “It’s a Latin thing,” which helped him get through to Antonia/Marnie, now I just wonder if his power will help him in any way to fight Marnie. I mean doesn’t he know any spells? After all the time he seemingly spent with Marnie, you would think he might have learned something. Just saying…

Well, this wasn’t one of my favorites. Plus that very last frame of Eric, Pam, Jessica and Bill coming to “Burn Down the House” was half cheesy, half cool, but nothing to be on the edge of your seat about.

That said I’m always excited for new episodes of True Blood, so while the actually cliffhanger wasn’t a jaw-dropping moment, I cannot wait to see what happens next.

As always I’d love to hear your thoughts on tonight’s episode. Were you as shocked as I was by Tommy’s death? Are you happy old Eric is back? Would you like to see Sookie fight Antonia/Marnie? You can share all your thoughts in the comment section below.

If Bill and Sookie get back together I am officially done with this show.

    • Hi Amy,

Oh no, don’t be done with the show. Bill and Sookie were so sweet together!

  • Gotmywings2002

Totally did NOT see Tommy dying off!!!! WTF!! … i was really starting to like him too, i thought for sure it was another ploy to get Sam to feel sorry for him, i kept expecting him to jump up off the table and shout “HAHAHA GOT YOU SUCKER!”

I’m glad Eric is back and i’m sad Sookie didn’t really give him benefit of the doubt that he still loved her, she seemed very ready to shut him out.  The back and forth between her and Bill is confusing, just decide one way or another I’ll be happy either way.  i was very much against her and Eric but again … they have a way of winning me over i guess!!

Jason Jason Jason, he has a good heart but he’s just so STUPID!!! Stop thinking with ur c**k and do what’s RIGHT! Hoyt’s ur best friend and he NEEDS you … boy do i know how THAT feels!!

i 2nd getting rid of Debbie, she’s kind of a pointless character. She’s OBVIOUSLY into Marcus, who hopefully will also be leaving the screen soon! Or at least be a little more than “alpha dog”. Develop the character more.

I loved seeing that sentimental side of Terry and Andy, and i like too to be reminded that there are humans on this show still dealing with human problems.

    • Hi Gotmywings2002,

I totally thought Tommy was going to jump up too!

I think Sookie’s reaction to Eric might have also had something to do with the fact that she realized she still cared about Bill.

As for Debbie and Marcus, I’m guessing/hoping their storyline will lead to Alcide maybe rebelling and once and for all joining the vampire/Sookie side.

I’m one of the few people who actually liked Tommy. Life kept kicking that kids ass, so what makes people think he would be a perfect little angel? Yeah, he did some bad sh*t, but so did Sam (when he was young). But you knew that deep down, he wasn’t evil. He wanted to make things right with Sam, and he was pretty much suicidal from guilt after he killed his good for nothing parents. Like Terry said, men without souls don’t cry. I have to admit though, the way he died and reconciled with Sam was just magnificent. I loved and hated that scene at the same time, I almost cried. Anyway, I’m sure Sam will get some revenge, and I have a feeling he and Alcide will be friends 🙂

    • Hi Alyssa,

I agree. I don’t think Tommy was a bad person, I just think he was misguided. But still he could be quite a pain. Yet, I did feel sad when he died, which I proves that Tommy was a three dimensional character with flaws (lots of them), but some qualities too.

And I think I like the idea of Alcide and Sam becoming friends!
