EUREKA Cancelled: The Trumpet Has Sounded

The sad news broke last night via The Hollywood Reporter, that the popular Syfy series EUREKA has been cancelled.

What fans have feared most for the show since the unsettling news broke that its fate might be in jeopardy has been confirmed by the following statement from the network, which was first reported by Entertainment Weekly:

“After painstaking consideration, we have had to make the difficult business decision to not order a season six of Eureka. But Eureka is not over yet. There is a new holiday episode this December and 12 stellar episodes set to debut next year, marking its fifth season and six memorable years on Syfy. The 2012 episodes are some of the best we’ve seen, and will bring this great series to a satisfying end. We are very grateful to Bruce Miller and Jaime Paglia, their team of incredible writers, and an amazing cast and crew who have consistently delivered a series we continue to be very proud of. We thank the fans for their support of this show and know they will enjoy its final season in 2012.”

As can be imagined, the concern for Eureka‘s future began to build among its dedicated fanbase as soon as the first story broke about the proposed 6-episode order for Season 6 came down from the network; and now this news has fans reeling from the shock. Unfortunately, there is no word why the deal for Season 6 fell through.

So let’s hear from the fans. Are you upset by this news? Do you think it’s time for Eureka to go out in a blaze of glory? Who has started a “show the show” petition or started fan efforts to support the show and attempt to change the network’s mind? Please share.
