The packed Games of Thrones panel at Comic-Con 2011 included stars Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Ser Jaime Lannister, Lena Heady as Cersei Lannister, Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Kit Harington as Jon Snow, Jason Momoa as Khal Drogo, and executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. The panel was moderated by George R. R. Martin, who wrote the original series of books and also serves as a co-executive producer and writer on the series.

Here are the highlights from the panel.

– David Benioff said that the scene where Bran Stark is thrown out of the window was when he really got into the books.

– Emilia Clarke got the role of Daenerys Targaryen right out of drama school.

– “Well George between you and me Khal Drogo would kick Conan’s ass.” -Jason Momoa to George R.R. Martin.

– George RR Martin’s favorite character is Tyrion Lannister.

– If you were wondering what you had to look forward to on the season 1 DVDs, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss explained that there wouldn’t really be any deleted scenes, because they pretty much used everything they had. But there will be tons of extras including the audition videos of the cast.

– David Benioff and D.B. Weiss discovered Jason Momoa thanks to a Game of Thrones thread online which recommended him for the role. David Benioff hadn’t heard of him before.

– Jason Momoa danced in his audition to prove how good he would be as Khal Drogo.

– When Jason Momoa first heard the made up language for the Dothraki, he thought “Shit.” But then he said “I really want this job, I’ll do anything.”

– They just read some of the season 2 scripts and Lena Heady is excited about what’s coming up.

– Emilia Clarke’s favorite scene is of course the very last famous dragons scene.

– Jason Momoa was really pissed when he found out that Khal Drogo died because he loved the character so much.

– George R.R. Martin tries to involve your emotions by having all of the characters always in danger or dying.

– “I want Jon Snow to be on the throne, definitely.” Kit Harington responding to how he would end the series if he could.

– As to how he would end the series, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau describe a funny scene that fades to black and fast-forwards 20 years later, Jaime and Cersei are finally together holding hands. Jamie goes “Finally my love.” Cue music to end.

– “Dance number.” Peter Dinklage responding to how he would end the series if he could.

– “I lost interested when I was on. Then my scene was over and I got interested again.” Peter Dinklage joking about what his favorite scenes in Game of Thrones.

– Season 2 teasers, the panel joked “Everyone dies.” “It was all a dream.”

– And now the real teasers for Season 2. There will be new characters introduced. The Red priestess will be introduced, dragons and wolves scenes, there is some bad stuff lurking north of the wall. It’s going to be a season of exploration.

– When asked if they would be able to do The Battle of the Blackwater justice, George R.R. Martin (who is writing the scene) joked “We’re going to pass my hat around to get some contribution.”

– “I am concerned about the ending. I still have 2 books to write.” George R.R. Martin explained. He hopes that the ending will tie everything together. “Hopefully it will make some people happy.” Then he added “I have always been a fan on bittersweet endings.”

– “Jon’s got a big journey ahead of him.” said Kit Harington. Then he added “He’s a badass with a sword.”

– Kit Harington doesn’t know who Jon’s mother is.

– “I mourn all the characters as I kill them.” -George R.R. Martin “I tell myself it’s not me killing them, it’s the other characters.”
