MEMPHIS BEAT “Troubled Waters” Review

MEMPHIS BEAT (USA) Troubled Waters

MEMPHIS BEAT “Troubled Waters” Season 2 Episode 6 – In this episode an old friend comes to visit Dwight and brings along a lot of ghosts from the past. Turns out the guy once stole Dwight’s girl and is now married to her and not only that, but has gotten himself into a host of trouble with the law. As Whitehead points out to him early on, Dwight has to help every stray that crosses his path and of course lets bygones be bygones so that he can try and get his old buddy out of trouble.

Trouble is that at every turn, Dwight’s investigation ends up proving that his friend is guilty as sin. The good news is that it turns out Jimmy didn’t commit the crime; the bad news is that he did aide and abet those who did. Oops. Sure he did it with good intentions but it still means that Dwight has to send a friend to jail.

Meanwhile the b-story this week provided more than its fair share of hilarity. Ever wonder where Lieutenant Rice gets her attitude from? Well you can wonder no more because in this episode we meet her momma and the mystery is solved. Between Rice trying to keep the woman off the road and her momma scaring the living daylights out of poor Sutton, there were plenty of laughs to be had to counter Dwight dealing with Jimmy and all his problems.

My favorite bits..

I just love how Dwight’s momma can get him to do just about anything.

The lieutenant’s momma coming in to the station and bossing Sutton around.

Whitehead telling Dwight that he was acting like a wounded baby bird.

Whitehead spotting the girl in question over Dwight’s shoulder.

Totally agreeing with Whitehead, Dwight totally is the guy who helps every stray that crosses his path. Which is one of the reasons I love him.

“I’m not supposed to be doing this am I?”
“That’s a way of putting it.”

Whitehead proving his point by getting Dwight to loan him his last twelve bucks.

Rice’s momma pointing out that not having a license didn’t stop her from driving when she was a kid. Aha, so the lieutenant was a bad girl when she was younger. Why doesn’t that surprise me?

Wow, Whitehead sure has some zingers tonight. Now he’s comparing people to cheese. LOL.

Rice ordering Whitehead to stay out of her business.

“Going forward Dwight, don’t leave me hung out with my Spanx down.” – I hear that sister!

Dwight looking around to see what “special guest” was in the audience.

Aw, Dwight and his old friend getting up to do “Ring of Fire” together.

“Scent of the Wind”? Oh my. Yeah that does sound pretty bad. Guess we should just all be glad that Dwight sticks to singing covers of other people’s music.

“Is that an order lieutenant? ‘Cause your mother’s kinda scary.”

Dwight admitting to Jimmy that he hadn’t told anything to Margot. Aw, that was nice.
